Help with Home Schooling - Thanks to Alex Power

To Help Keep Them Quiet and Busy ☺
  • Listen to Kids of the Move, Saddleback Kids or read a Bible Story and create a Bible
    Journal – look up some Bible Journaling ideas for inspiration if you’re stuck!

  • Create some prayer stations around your house – google some ideas if you’re stuck – playdough and fingerprint prayers are great fun!

  • Practise life skills – tying shoe laces, use a camera, telling the time, counting money, setting the table, help sort and put away laundry etc...


  • Make a fort or create a base in your house or garden
  • Create an obstacle course – time yourself!
  • Create ‘Minute-to-win-it!’ Challenges around your house – try beat your previous time
  • Teach one of your siblings or a parent or friend something new – you can even record yourself doing it and send it to them!
  • Reading – try do at least 30 minutes of reading each day – kindles and tablets also make greatbooks☺ (DolchWordListsavailableonTwinklforsmallerchildren)

  • Write a book review based on a book you have read!
  • Practise some tricky spellings– have someone test you on Friday☺ -Twinkl has loads of tricky spelling lists

  • Revise Irish vocabulary or verb rules – test yourself
  • Play Irish Dice games on Twinkl – practise writing and creating sentences
  • Comprehension Practise – there are lots of sample comprehensions in both English and Irish on Twinkl
  • Create a lesson for your class in a subject of your choice – English, Irish, Maths, SESE or Music

  • Keep a diary – Anne Frank didn’t know she’d be famous!
  • Watch some Origami videos on YouTube and let your imagination go wild!
  • Maths – Revise topics that we have covered so far. Try practise at least 1 tricky sum a day – practice makes perfect ☺

  • Pick a movie that you haven’t seen before – write a plot summary and recommendation for your teacher, classmates, family members, friends...

  • Look up some science experiments on YouTube – find some you can do at home
  • ​Learn some new songs or revisit some old songs from Summerfest or Sunday School –


  • ​RAK – Random Act of Kindness - Do something kind for someone – Help with chores around the house, making your bed, playing nicely with siblings, helping parents etc... – keep track of all the nice things that you do in your Kindness Journal.
  • Ask an adult or someone older than you what their favourite song is now or was when they were younger – have a listen, think about it and draw a picture of what comes to your head.
  • Call/Skype or Facetime someone you haven’t talked to in a while!
  • Practise letter writing skills – Write someone from church a letter, you can post or keep it
  • until you see them next ☺

  • Practise Conversation Starters – Find out what your family think about things... Have fun in the garden! – There’s so much you can do!
  • Practise the countries and flags of the world – try and memorise a country for each letter of the alphabet
  • RendCo Kids, Hillsong Kids, VBS Kids have great songs on Youtube – you might recognise a few ☺
  • Use a phone or tablet to take some photos each day:


  • You could also use these challenges or your own and keep a sketch book of different things each day ☺

  • Write a script for a short drama or film
  • Interior design – choose a room in your own house that re-design – make a poster-board of ideas for what you would do – eg sketches, colours, patterns, furniture etc...

  • Make your own comic strips ☺
  • Create a 2-5 minute presentation about any topic that interests you – Create a PowerPoint,
  • Poster or Scrapbook about your topic.
  • Learn and recite a poem you like – Spike Milligan – Smiling is Infectious - is a great one!
  • Bake a Cake
  • Create a new game – use your imagination!
  • Take a GoNoodle break (gonoodle,com)
  • Hide something and make a treasure map!

  • Play I Spy
  • Watch something on TG4/Cúla4
  • Create a Maths trail around your house – number or shape hunt
  • Sort your toys by size or colour!

  • Learn a new song to sing
  • Play a card game
  • Practise tying your shoelaces
  • Spend time outside every day!

  • Do a jigsaw
  • Make your bed
  • Paint something
  • Clean your bedroo

  • Build something!
  • Fold your clothes – match your socks ☺
  • Make patterns
  • Practise your writing – make a shopping list or write a book

  • Draw your favourite animal
  • Plant some seeds
  • Help make lunch or dinner
  • Make up a quiz

  • Play with some play dough
  • Design a new cover for your favourite book
  • Practise cutting
  • Blow some bubbles

  • Play a board game
  • Read something every day!
